Do you love to read? Then do we have a club for you!!! Page Turners is a monthly book club that has been together for over 10 years, dedicated to reading all sort of books—bestselling fiction and non-fiction, classic and contemporary. We search the best seller and book club lists to find unique, interesting, and great novels.
Page Turners puts together theme programs—Mystery Month, Drama (Plays) Month, Books to Movies, Going Back in Time Classics, and Young Adult Selections.
We participate in the yearly “If Everyone in Rochester Reads..” program, not only reading the book but also going to see the visiting authors. Our club has also organized a spin-off of the “If Everyone in Rochester Reads” program called GUMC All Church Reads—selecting a Christian, thought provoking, bestseller selection and scheduling an evening pot-luck and discussion night
We meet every 4th Tuesday of the month from 6:00pm by Zoom. Greece United Methodist Church, 1924 Maiden Lane, Rochester 14626 (Office phone: 225-1880)
2021 February's Selection:
Nickel Boys
By Colson Whitehead
When Elwood Curtis, a black boy growing up in 1960s Tallahassee, is unfairly sentenced to a juvenile reformatory called the Nickel Academy, he finds himself trapped in a grotesque chamber of horrors. Elwood’s only salvation is his friendship with fellow “delinquent” Turner, which deepens despite Turner’s conviction that Elwood is hopelessly naive, that the world is crooked, and that the only way to survive is to scheme and avoid trouble. As life at the Academy becomes ever more perilous, the tension between Elwood’s ideals and Turner’s skepticism leads to a decision whose repercussions will echo down the decades.
Join us the 4th Tuesday of each month at 6pm by Zoom. All are welcomed to attend, even if you haven't read or finished the book. See you there!!ll
